Fiat Lux

I'm writing with a question for Herrick's reference librarian about the university's student newspaper, Fiat Lux. Specifically, I am curious to know when the newspaper last produced published editions--in print or electronically--on a regular schedule. When I was a student at Alfred, the newspaper was published every two weeks. I believe this is no longer the case, but am not sure when the paper ceased regular publication. It might be helpful to know how many editions of the Fiat Lux were published each of the last five academic years. I appreciate any information you can provide.

Answer

The paper was published regularly, 2x a week, until last year (2012-13) when it ran into financial problems (lost their Senate funding, couldn't pay for printing). They published one issue as a PDF, wrote stories and posted to Tumblr, had one print paper late in the spring.

They have regained their Senate funding and plan on publishing in paper on a regular schedule again. They are celebrating the 100th year of the paper next month and are looking for alumni who were involved to either come back to campus (Oct. 26) or to send in thoughts, messages, etc.

The entire run of the Fiat Lux has been digitized and is available online in the University's digital repository: http://aura.alfred.edu/handle/10829/2
