I believe my ggg-grandfather Rev. James L. Scott and his brother Riley W. Scott attended Alfred University in the VERY early years. Is there a way to confirm this fact? Both were 7th Day Baptists.

Michael  - I can verify that both James and Riley attended Alfred University (although when they attended it was the Alfred Select School). As you noted, they were in our very earliest classes! Our first term began December 1836. James matriculated in the 1838-39 year while Riley came during the 1839-40 year. Unfortunately I can only verify that they attended. We don't have records on individual students that early. I don't know how many terms they attended. They are not listed as graduating, which was not uncommon. Many more students attended for a few terms than actually attended long enough to officially graduate. At that time the school was primarily a teacher training program. It makes sense that they were Seventh Day Baptist since the majority of Alfred's population at that time were members of that church.
